Pop N Music is more of younger person's version of Dance Dance Revolution. Where children that aren't big enough to use DDR's floor panel. Can use the easier large push buttons to follow the music.
This machine is very similar to the mechanics of DDR. Except that the players control the action by pushing the corresponding push button that matches the musical note. The control panel consists of 9 large colourful push buttons. Players can opt to play with only 5 of the buttons or all 9 for a greater challenge. Songs selectable also are list with a difficulty factor of 1 to 5(5 being the hardest).
The background for play is designed more for children as well with cute animated people either side of the central play area. This play area is similar to DDR, were as the music plays coloured lights fall down the screen as they intersect the bottom section players must press the corresponding coloured button the correct time.
Each press results in a Great, Good or Bad rating. Too many bads will cause the player to fail the stage. Players are awarded bonus points for combos (consecutive hits in a row)
In this version players can choose from the following modes:
-Enjoy Mode the simplest mode consisting of 3 stages. Players choose 5 or 9 button mode, select a song and then play begins.
If the player fails a stage they must insert another credit to continue. Regardless of pass or fail after the 3 stage the game is over and overall results are displayed.
-Challenge Mode is a more complicated mode, 5 or 9 button mode can still be chosen. However players are award challenge points for 9 button mode and selecting harder songs. More variation is allowed in challenge mode include Normal, Hyper and EX modes. As well as extra options like Hi-Speed.
As with enjoy mode after 3 stages regardless of pass or fail the game is over. If the player fails a stage, they must insert another credit to continue. However with each stage results the challenge points earned are also listed.
-Battle Mode is a versus mode for 2 players. Players choose a character to be their avatar and then select a song to battle on. Options such as hyper mode are also selectable.
The screen is modified for battle mode. There are 2 play area, one for each player and located at either end of the screen. In the middle are the player's avatars.
As the game progressing, a player's level gauge fills. When filled a player can initialise a battle (mini game). The game also requires good timing. The loser is of the mini game loses advantage in the battle.
At the end of the song the player with the most points is declared the winner. This mode is the best of 3 stages.
-Expert Mode consists of 4 songs nonstop (no breaks in-between). The player has a life gauge below the play area. If it reaches zero, the player fails. Players must so great endurance to succeed in this NON STOP SHOWDOWN.
-Net Mode is where players enter a pin number to register them into the battle. The player then choose their rank, this will match them up with people of their skill level. The higher the rank the more tunes that are selectable.
Players then select a song and enter the battle. The battle is against player across the network and can consist of more than one opponent. Once over the winner is declared and players are awarded.
