Exceed 2 is the 9th pump it up version to be released for Arcades. It features 18 new songs to bring the total to 136 songs.
The biggest new feature in this version is the battle system that is newly introduced in Exceed 2. By correctly stepping on the right arows, the attack gauge rises. When the action step appears and is stepped on. A attack is made to throw the other player off their game or an item is applied to shield them.
In addition, this system uses the hybrid hardship grade system that keeps changing in accordance with the player's capability. Meaning that if one player is doing a lot better than the other. The better player's handicap will increase throughout the battle ensure a good/close battle.
Either player can win the battle by eliminating all 5 of their opponents live points displayed on the upper part of the screen.
Items also play a big part in the Battles. Player can get any of the 11 unique items, which can tip the balance in their favour. Items include both attacking and defensive items.
To make the Battles exciting to watch as well as play. Each player is represented by a unique character, who acts out the battles. Each character will show various actions depending on the situation. This replaces the background animation your would normally see playing the song in normal mode.
To encourage players to try the New Battle System, standard settings allow 2 players to start a battle game with the cost of only 1 credit.
There are also a number of mode included in the Battle System, they are:-
Item Battle: Every item appears in this mode, so that you can use various kinds of tactics.
Mine Sweeper: Mine installation items and flash items mainly appear in this mode, making it very important to avoid mines.
Velocity: Velocity increase items mainly appears in this mode, making this a fast/action pact battle.
Hardship Mode: This is a pure battle, no items appears in this mode.
The game offers 3 kinds of Stations which are "The Revived Remix Station", "The Arcade Station" and the new "Battle Station." There are also 10 game modes available in this version.
Changes to the worldwide internet ranking system include a newly balanced score system.
